SGS Holds Staff Durbar, Bids Farewell to Outgoing Dean and Vice-Dean

On Friday, 18th July 2025, the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) held a memorable staff durbar, bringing together members of staff and special guests for a significant occasion in the school’s calendar.

This durbar marked a poignant milestone, as it served as the final official gathering for the current Dean and Vice-Dean of SGS, Professor Robert Darko Osei and Professor Irene Mawuena Kretchy. The entire SGS community expressed profound appreciation for their dedicated service and transformative leadership over the years. Their tenure has witnessed remarkable growth and innovation at SGS, reflecting their vision and relentless commitment to excellence.

As Professor Osei and Professor Kretchy prepare to embark on new roles in the university—Professor Osei as the incoming Director of the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), and Professor Kretchy as the next Dean of the School of Pharmacy—the sentiments shared at the durbar were a testament to the lasting impact of their stewardship.

In a show of unity and continuity, the durbar was also graced by the presence of the incoming Acting Dean and Vice-Dean of SGS, Professor Akosua Darkwah and Professor Patrick Amoateng, respectively. The gathering provided a valuable opportunity for staff to interact with the new leadership, who shared their vision and excitement for the future of the school. Their introduction was met with enthusiasm and optimism as staff looked forward to supporting them in building upon the strong foundation laid by their predecessors.

In a related development, the Staff Durbar also bid farewell to Mr. Christopher Eduful Arthur, Assistant Registrar (Graduation Unit), and Ms. Beatrice Adobea Ohene-Addo, Assistant Registrar (Data Management Unit), who have been transferred to the Central Administration of the College of Health Sciences in Korle Bu and the School of Performing Arts, respectively. Mr. Bright Avugla, Assistant Registrar, was introduced at the Durbar as the replacement for Mr. Arthur.

The School of Graduate Studies extends its heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Professor Robert Darko Osei, Professor Irene Mawuena Kretchy, Mr. Christopher Eduful Arthur, and Ms. Beatrice Adobea Ohene-Addo as they assume their new roles. In the same vein, we warmly welcome Professor Akosua Darkwah, Professor Patrick Amoateng, and Mr. Bright Avugla to the helm of SGS.
