What an incredible three days it has been at the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) PhD Thesis BootCamp! Today marks the triumphant conclusion of an intensive program designed to equip our doctoral candidates with the crucial tools they need for both seamless thesis submission and impactful careers beyond academia.

The BootCamp, organised by SGS with some support from Pan-African Doctoral Academy (PADA) and its dedicated Director, Dr. Collins Badu Agyemang, kicked off with an inspiring start on day one, featuring insightful words from Dean Prof. Darko Osei and Vice-Dean Prof. Irene Kretchy of SGS. Day two saw Professor Appah deliver impactful EndNote training, a session highly praised by students for its immediate practical value in streamlining their research and citation management.

Day three brought a laser focus on the critical final steps of thesis submission. Our expert SGS IT Staff led an invaluable session, demystifying the process and empowering PhD students with confidence. They provided hands-on guidance on:

  • Generating their TURNITIN or Thesis Plagiarism Index via Sakai, ensuring academic integrity with ease.
  • Utilizing the comprehensive Thesis Tracking System on Sakai for seamless document uploads and progress monitoring, giving students full control over their submission journey.

This direct engagement with our IT team offered immediate clarity and a practical roadmap, highlighting SGS’s unwavering commitment to student support right through to completion.

The BootCamp culminated with an exceptionally inspiring session led by Professor Robert Hinson, a renowned scholar and industry leader. His "Life After PhD" talk went beyond traditional academic paths, offering candid and actionable advice on how to leverage a doctoral qualification for diverse and fulfilling career opportunities. Prof. Hinson explored:

  • Exciting career avenues in academia, industry, entrepreneurship, and public service.
  • Effective networking strategies and building valuable professional connections.
  • Translating advanced research skills into tangible value for various sectors.
