The School of Graduate Studies (SGS), University of Ghana, recently gathered to celebrate and honour a remarkable group of colleagues whose journeys with the School have left an enduring impact on its growth, administration, and daily operations.
The occasion served as both a farewell and a celebration of service, recognising staff members who are either retiring from active service or transitioning to new roles and departments within the University.
While farewells are never easy, the event was a fitting tribute to individuals whose dedication, professionalism, and commitment have contributed immensely to the success of SGS over the years.
A New Chapter for Mr. Michael Opare Atuah
Among the most notable moments of the gathering was the recognition of Mr. Michael Opare Atuah, whose tenure as School Administrator of the School of Graduate Studies concludes at the end of July 2026.
Throughout his time at SGS, Mr. Atuah demonstrated exceptional leadership, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to postgraduate education. His contributions have helped shape many of the administrative structures and processes that support the School today.
As he prepares to assume the prestigious role of Registrar of the University of Ghana, effective 1st August 2026, SGS celebrates not only his achievements but also the significant milestone this appointment represents.
While the University gains a highly experienced and capable Registrar, SGS bids farewell to a leader whose institutional knowledge, guidance, and commitment will be deeply missed.
The School extends its warmest congratulations to Mr. Atuah and wishes him every success as he embarks on this exciting new chapter of service to the University.
Honouring Years of Dedicated Service
The event also paid tribute to two esteemed colleagues who will be retiring from active service at the end of the month:
- Mr. Kobla Alowu
- Mr. Johnson Asante
Over the years, both gentlemen have contributed significantly to the operations and success of SGS through their commitment, diligence, and professionalism.
Their years of service have touched countless students, staff, and stakeholders, helping to build the strong foundation upon which the School continues to thrive today.
Retirement marks the conclusion of one chapter and the beginning of another. SGS expresses its profound gratitude to Mr. Alowu and Mr. Asante for their invaluable contributions and wishes them good health, happiness, and fulfilment in the years ahead.
Celebrating Colleagues Moving to New Roles
The School also recognised staff members who will be taking up new responsibilities in other parts of the University.
The outgoing staff include:
- Mrs. Esi Benyiwa Idan Osam Doe-Sallah
- Mrs. Jennifer Bawuah
- Mr. Matthew Adagbedu
Each of these colleagues has played an important role in the SGS community, contributing their expertise, dedication, and commitment to the School's mission.
Although their departures represent a significant loss to SGS, they also reflect the growth and opportunities that exist within the wider University community.
