The School of Graduate Studies (SGS) proudly joins the University of Ghana community in congratulating Mr. Michael Opare Atuah on his appointment as the 10th Registrar of the University of Ghana, following his swearing-in ceremony and assumption of office on 1st August 2026.
For the SGS family, this appointment is both a moment of immense pride and a bittersweet farewell. While the University gains an accomplished administrator and visionary leader, the School of Graduate Studies bids farewell to a respected colleague whose leadership, dedication, and commitment have significantly shaped the growth and success of SGS over the years.
A Well-Deserved Appointment
As Registrar, Mr. Atuah will provide leadership for the administrative and operational functions of the University as it advances the implementation of its 2024–2029 Strategic Plan and continues to pursue excellence in teaching, learning, research, and service.
During the swearing-in ceremony, the Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Mrs. Mary Chinery-Hesse, charged Mr. Atuah to uphold the values, statutes, and traditions of the University while serving with integrity, professionalism, and unwavering commitment in the discharge of his responsibilities. She also acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the outgoing Registrar, Mrs. Emelia N. K. Agyei-Mensah, and thanked her for her distinguished service to the University.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, welcomed Mr. Atuah on behalf of Senior Management and expressed confidence in his ability to contribute meaningfully to the University's continued growth and transformation. She further commended the outgoing Registrar for strengthening the administrative foundations upon which future progress will continue to be built.
A Legacy of Service at SGS
For members of the School of Graduate Studies, Mr. Atuah's appointment represents the culmination of exemplary service, professionalism, and leadership.
As School Administrator, he played a central role in supporting the academic and administrative functions of SGS, helping to create an environment that fostered postgraduate excellence and operational efficiency. Through periods of growth, transformation, and innovation, Mr. Atuah remained a dependable source of guidance and support, contributing to initiatives that strengthened the School and enhanced service delivery.
His departure undoubtedly leaves a significant gap within SGS. His institutional knowledge, leadership experience, and commitment to excellence have been invaluable assets to the School, and his presence will be greatly missed.
